Knitted Christmas Tree, 2013

This year’s tree is knitted. Yes, it’s hard to believe, but it’s actually knitted. The 18-meter tree was knitted from white plastic bags. The knitting of the tree decorations took almost a year, as Kaunas artists tried to convey the image of a cozy home and help people forget about the winter cold. This tree also conveyed the importance of ecology – how crucial it is to protect and preserve nature.

The tree consisted of three parts: the bottom part, knitted from plastic bags, resembling a warm knitted sweater. In the middle, there were rotating angels created by Kaunas artists, spreading the message of goodness and purity. And the top part was a green forest tree adorned with lights and a sun-like tip, because we all desire rays of sunshine even in winter. This tree was unanimously chosen as the most beautiful in Lithuania.
