ART RESIDENCY IN LITHUANIA
Public Enterprise “The Textile Artists’ Guild” invites foreign and Lithuanian professors, curators and culture managers of visual and applied arts, textile, design, art history, theory and criticism to participate in artist’s residency program in LITHUANIA (Kaunas).
AIMS OF PROGRAM
- To strengthen artistic and cultural relations and mobility of art between the Republic of Lithuania and foreign countries.
- To create an environment favorable to the modern art and stimulate the innovative art phenomena. The program offers optimum living conditions for the comfortable living, rest and interaction of residing artists.
- To stimulate innovations in art education. During the artist-in-residency programs, the artists are invited to be related to the educational activity. The residents visiting on the basis of scholarship are obliged to organize creative workshops for the selected group of participants.
- To become a part of local cultural and social life. Residing artists are invited to enter the local cultural life: to join Lithuanian’s artistic initiatives and activity of cultural institutions, to interpret local visual and social contexts.
Residency program duration is from 1 to 2 months. At one time, the residential premises can be occupied by 1- 3 people. At the end of residency, the presentation of the works of resident could be organized in the premises of Gallery Balta in Lithuania. In that case, the exposition space will be given to the resident free of charge.
The residency apartments area is 130 m2 (second floor of gallery BALTA, M.Valančiaus g. 21, Kaunas). There are two private rooms, living room, kitchen and bathroom. Apartments are decorated with original pieces of art. Rooms are equipped with wireless internet, autonomous heating, air-conditioners, hot and cold water. Rooms are furnished with stylish furniture and interesting accessories. We also have the main art equipment (frames, sub-frames, boards, fabrics, paints, brushes, pencils, easels, etc.). Residency place has a private entrance (from inner yard) so artists are not dependent on gallery working hours. Apartments are located in the sixteenth century building in the calm street of Kaunas Old Town, near the main pedestrian street. Most visited tourist places are near here: Kaunas Castle, Kaunas Cathedral Basilica, Vytautas Magnus Church, Kaunas Town hall and many others. There are also seven art galleries, photographers and painters union, art equipment shops, museums near here.
